My name is Doreann L. Gillooly-Nasin owner and founder of No Dogs Allowed L.L.C. I have been breeding, showing and grooming persians for about 20 years and 4 years of breeding, showing and grooming the rare Turkish Angoras. I have a lot of knowledge, hands on understanding and natural ability to read cats feelings. Cats are not dogs by any means, if a dog as a problem most dogs realizes it when taught and tries to work with you. While the cat thinks you ARE the problem and not them so you have to go to their level of understanding and be very patient with them. Dogs are O. K. in my books but my respect and understanding of cats is my true love. Cats are very sensitive creatures, more so then dogs because of a couple of simple factors. Most species of cats are loners and are not pack animals like dogs. They know they are small and think they are on their own so they will tense up in what they think is a bad dangerous situation. I have groomed cats in an area were you can hear dogs barking and even though the cat can't see them. They can smell them and hear them which makes the cat more tense, stressed and in turn more difficult to groom. They also have an excellent sense of smell. So, if you put a cat in a tub or on a grooming table were a dog was minutes or even a day before and not disinfect it first there might be a stressful problem where the cat could react, thinking the dog is around and be on his/her guard the whole time. Most cats (about 99%) don't attack for no reason they are fight or flight creatures. They would more likely choose to flight as they know they are small and can't have a fair fight in their minds. If you build trust and patience in a cat they will became more and more open to you and learn that you are not going to harm them. They will not totally enjoy the whole grooming experience but will remember it only a short amount of time to "deal with" no pain vs the long term of comfort and feeling clean. Cats love to be clean and they feel real good about the world with this feeling and are confident in them self like us. So for some of these reasons are why this salon came to be, solely catered to our feline friends with a stress free of no smell or barking dogs, no harsh dryers, no improper handling, no heavy duty clippers to cut their tissue like skin, no big windows for fear of an open exposed feeling, no shop activity of in/out customers, no bright lights as they feel better in lower lighting, nice relaxing music to calm their solos, calm atmosphere and lots of patience.
